From Farms to Incubators partnered with Agrictecture on a special roundtable to kick off the annual NYC AgTech Summit. The NYC AgTech Summit is organized by NYC Ag Collective.

Chelsa Hernandez
Chelsa is an urban farmer and food systems entrepreneur in Northern New Jersey growing and selling locally grown food.  GreenGrocer Food Hub, her retail business, connects New Jersey small farmers with urban and suburban customers. Alina Zolotareva
Alina Zolotareva is the Marketing Director at AeroFarms, a leading clean-technology company that builds and operates responsible, state-of-the-art indoor vertical farms around the world, enabling local production and transforming agriculture. A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Alina leverages her background in nutrition science and public health to translate nutrition science to consumers, playing a key role in AeroFarms’ mission to combat food deserts and bring fresh, local, nutritious leafy greens to all communities. In addition to marketing & sales, Alina also works on product development, working on the cutting edge of leafy greens innovation in flavor and nutrition.

Sarah Ann Horton specializes in urban agriculture and workforce development. She has worked in a wide array of farming systems from regenerative soil agriculture to indoor hydroponics. She currently manages production while also training the next generation of farmers at Square Roots Grow.

  • ·         Despite these challenges why do you remain in this industry and what are you plans key initiatives and projects in the near term

  • ·         What in your opinion are some Ag and food innovation trends?

  • ·         Why are there so few women in agtech and do you see that changing in the near future and why?

 

The roundtable held at Agritecture’s office in Brooklyn was a partner event of NYC AgTech Week for those identifying as women innovators and entrepreneurs who are seeking to provide novel perspectives and solutions to agriculture’s problems with tech innovation.
